You are not alone! Sometimes it isn't even that your gingivitis
treatment failed - it is more that no one told you that you had gingivitis
until it was too late.
That's what happened to me. My dentist let a case of gum disease develop
over a period of years. She never told me what to do about it except
to use a popular mouthwash.
Well guess what? Nothing worked. And then one day she said I
needed a Scaling and Root Planing. That's when I said 'no' and took matters
into my own hands.
Several months later she changed her mind and decided that whatever I was
doing was working and to 'keep it up'! This is where the problem comes
in. She did not tell me what would work. I had to find out for
myself. But how many people just go ahead and get that SRP
treatment.
Does it work? It might help for a short time, but if you do not know
what to do at home, you may find yourself in the same boat all over again!
Do you see how that could be a never ending cycle. Years of diseased
gum tissue can be the cause of recession and that just makes the cycle more
vision. There is now more gum tissue open to attack by the bacteria.
So this is a BIG problem that is not being addressed. After my
experience, my gums became healthy again, but I had to learn even more to
get them into tip top shape.
